Re: First RGP's - help!

Hi Plasticfridge, You should be able to see better with your lenses than with your spectacles otherwise there is not much point in wearing them! The only thing I can think of is that when you first put the lens in there might be lots of tears affecting your vision but when the lens has settled after...

Re: Should I get a left lens?

Hi Jay, Next time you go for a check up explain to your optom that your right eye now sees better than your left eye and ask her whether the sight in your left eye can be improved either with a soft lens or an RGP. Only your optom will be able tell you this - we can only guess. It may be that if onl...

Re: General KC Questions

Hi Jay, Yes, it can be frustrating how long it takes to get a pair of contact lenses sorted. But don't forget fitting keratoconus is rarely straightforward so it does take time. No, you don't have to use the NHS for your contact lenses, but you need to see someone who is an expert in fitting in kera...

Re: New lens

Hi Lou, I know exactly what you mean! It's a pain taking reading glasses on and off - especially when different powers are needed for reading and for using the PC. I suspect what the problem is that the new lens is of a slightly more -ve power which improves distance vision, but makes close vision w...

Re: Diagnosis of KC and next steps

Taffer, Your visual acuity is determined by reading the Snellen Chart. There is an explanation on this website: http://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/snellens/index.html As your VA with glasses is slightly less than 6/6 it would be worth going for a contact lens consultation to see what improvement ca...

Re: contact lenses

Munster, There are lots of different RGPs. Hopefully they will be able to find one that doesn't cause ghosting. I've found that if there is only ghosting in one eye the brain can ignore it, it's when it is in both eyes it can be annoying! Good Luck for Wednesday. Daniel, I've just read through your ...

Re: New RGP

Lou, I'm sorry to hear that your new lens isn't working; refits never seem to be straightforward. A couple of thoughts: As you haven't had a refit on this eye for some time the old lens has probably changed slightly since it was originally prescribed so it isn't quite as simple as tweaking the old p...

Re: Ghosting and Halos...

Hi Munster, I find that although I get ghosting with glasses it is greatly reduced with contact lenses. I wear RGPs and I have found that some RGPs leave more ghosting that others. I used to find that one particular RGP, which was the only comfortable lens for my right eye, left me with ghosting but...

Re: RGP fitment

Hi Al69, How often are your lenses falling out? Your posts imply it is a very frequent occurrence which could be because the fit is not right. They really shouldn't fall out that frequently. It may be worth seeking an earlier appointment (although I suspect you've already booked the 'next available ...

Re: keratoconus research

Anne, Here's one idea: Effects to the cornea from long term contact lens wear and in particular what causes contact lens intolerance and how can it be prevented A presenter at one of the KC group meetings said that there were less older people attending contact lens clinics than would be expected bu...
