Re: Gene therapy 'could be used to treat blindness'

Stem cells is just another form of gene therapy, it just uses the whole gene rather than inseting part of a gene in place of the defective one.

Re: Questions about Sclerals

Interesting that you say you have to leave your lenses out for at least 2 weeks before a scan. My consultant has always said one week, but I need to check with him if that should be 2 weeks if I change from my Kerasoft lenses to sclerals. For some people, this would mean that thye would be unable t...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

True the development of the disease varies in each individual but I have not heard it from anyone or read anywhere of any KCer whose KC condition has remained the same throughout their life. I think the reason you never see this on any support site or at a KC support meeting is that these people fe...

Re: Equality Act 2010 - is KC a disability?

I know some optomotrists faught to have the term legally blind redifined which would help and they tried to gain support from within their profession and from the many charities that have visially impaired members. The legal definitions regarding blindness and many other tests to determine how visio...

Re: Questions about Sclerals

Don't wear sclerals, but I have had a large amount of conttact with people who do so my answers are based on what I have learnt from them. Others with sclerals may disagree, but then we all have different experiences of lens types. I swear by soft lenses for most stages of KC, others swear by RGP's ...

Re: Kerasoft cl

Good luck for Saturday One thing I have many optomotrists admit to me and patients have endorsed this too is that when optoms try an RGP lens in your eye for the first time they give you an anaethetic eye drop so you don't notice how uncomfortable they can be if you've never worn them before! If you...

Re: Referral to Moorfields

Moorfields are good but I have found the hospitals in the West Midlands just as good, the Birmingham Eye Unit and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwick. Where they do excel above Moorfields is that on the day of the appiointment there is far less hanging around. Moorfields just a victim of its...

Re: Kerasoft cl

There are about three differnt types of soft lenses I believe. I used to be on Kerasoft 3 which might still be available, if it is then the hospital might order these as they are also designed for people with KC. The Kerasoft IC has a wider fitting range and the IC stands for Irregular Cornea which ...

Gene therapy 'could be used to treat blindness'

Caught this on the news today; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25718064 Interesting article that has proved to of had a definite benefit correcting vision where the issue was due to a single faulty gene. I believe for KC that a defect in multiple genes is the cause so coule this be the first step i...

Re: Kerasoft cl

I've worn the Kerasoft IC since before they were launched, I was lucky enough to take part in some of the trials. First lenses that meant I could truly see all day with absolutely no discomfort. They fit so nicely on the eye I have yet to find anything get under them unlike RGP's. This must be my si...
