Re: Advice Invited

Louise, I've just read all your previous posts and I agree with Andrew that there just may be other lenses you could try. From your previous posts I get the impression that your eyesight has got worse over the last few years, so one thing you could do is see if you could get a pair of glasses that c...

Re: Optometrist/Opthalmologist and Cataracts

Anna, I don't think that it is unusual not to see an ophthalmologist regularly if your KC is fairly stable. For years I was seen by an optometrist who had an interest in challenging patients. It's only when I moved house and couldn't find someone else to fit my eyes that I saw my GP and asked to be ...

Lynn said: 'It would be interesting to hear more from you, the patients, how you feel about the overall picture and what practical changes you feel could be made to overall care for KC. Re: The rollercoaster of lens fitting

Lynn,

I don't mind being interesting; as long as I can see!

The rollercoaster of lens fitting

I originally drafted this posting as a contribution to MKnight’s thread ‘Soft Lenses / Keratoconus’ but didn’t want to interrupt Lynn and Ali’s fascinating discussion. As patient with keratoconus I just want to see clearly and comfortably! After 35 years plus of RGP contact lens wear I’ve often desc...

Re: Soft Lenses / Keratoconus

Lynn and Ali what a fascinating discussion! It’s really interesting to understand some of the other issues behind the fitting of contact lenses for keratoconus.

Thank you,

Lia

Re: Soft Lenses / Keratoconus

Gareth, I completely agree that one has to be open and honest with the optometrists. Though sometimes I feel like I'm complaining when I have to explain that the lens that they spent hours fitting last time just doesn't work. One thing I did last time was take with me to my appointment a table I'd d...

Re: Contact Lens Left/Right Confusion

Hi George, I agree with Ian that with keratoconus your lenses are quite likely to be very different. And just because they are different doesn't mean your eyes can't see with them! At one time my right eye saw better with the left lens but although I could see with it the fitting wasn't a good one. ...

Re: contact lens and work

Chris, The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) leaflet INDG6 (rev3) is a leaflet titled 'Working with VDUs'. The leaflet includes the following question and response: 'What about problems with my contact lenses or bifocals? The heat generated by computers and other equipment can make the air seem drie...

Re: Protein deposits - how do you prevent them?

Gareth, I agree that not only is Keratoconus a bespoke condition but we need bespoke lenses to deal with the problem. I’ve followed your story with interest over the last two or three years and I’m impressed with the vision (both acuity and wearing time) you have achieved. Although the hospital did ...
