Re: Graft rejection after 44 years

Hi Carmel and welcome, I had my grafts in 86 (left) and 88 (right). At the time I was told they would last a lifetime, but medics now know that the full penetrating grafts (PK) that were available then have an average lifespan of 20 years. (The partial thickness grafts that are more often done these...

Re: Dry eyes

It sounds as if you've tried most things! There was an article about KC and dry eyes in the Autumn 2020 newsletter https://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/index.php/newsletters/ You might find something there. And have you tried the ointments you can put it at night to see if they make any difference i...

Please support corneal consultant Mario Saldanha

We are hugely grateful to Mario Saldanha, corneal consultant at Singleton Hospital in Swansea. With his medical student daughter Dea, he will be doing the Cardiff 10K Run on Saturday 3rd September in aid of the Keratoconus Group and to raise awareness of keratoconus and its treatment in Wales. Reade...

Re: Sclerals for dry eye

Hello Asadali and welcome. Most of us get our lenses through a hospital eye clinic (which also means we get them at the subsidised NHS rate, whatever the type of lens) though not all hospitals provide scleral lenses. You would need to ask your GP to refer you. Southampton sees a lot of people with K...

Re: Help with Hybrid Contact Lenses

Hi Andy,
Have you looked at our list of KC friendly optometrists to see if there's anyone near you there?

Re: Better glasses for KC?

Hi Cripps, The KC Group will keep in touch with Dr Abass and post any further updates on the website. This was the first stage of the research, involving just a few cases to see if the idea was feasible. Projects like this tend to take some years and, of course, require further funding to take them ...

Re: Scleral contact lenses

Hello Philippe,
I'm not a scleral lens user, but we have quite a few members who are. They're often recommended when a standard corneal rgp lens would be difficult to fit, as they don't touch the cornea (or the transplant). And a lot of people find them very comfortable. So definitely worth a try.

Re: Can I wear contact lenses?

Hi Sutts, According to Google, both King's Lynn and Norwich eye clinics have optometrists though that doesn't tell me whether they actually provide lenses with their own contact lens department. East Anglia doesn't have a lot of eye clinics, but the nearest alternative would be Addenbrookes in Cambr...

Re: Can I wear contact lenses?

Welcome back, Sutts. I've looked back on this forum and you were asking a similar question back in 2012! So it's great that you've had good vision with spectacles all this time. Grafts can sometimes change shape over time so that probably explains why you now can't get the same good vision. And yes,...
