Re: marked deterioration since graft

Hi Dweezil Some of the symptoms you describe are associated with a rejection, though your surgeon seems to have excluded that. But if you're still concerned, then do go back to the hospital before Monday - if it does turn out to be a rejection after all, then it needs quick treatment to reverse it. ...

Re: One of the five percent.

Blissbomb - I'm really sorry to hear of your sad experience. And I do hope that the right eye, having started down the KC route so late, won't progress too much. Have you tried contacting the Australian KC Association? They might be able to suggest more options for you. I know that, for example, Aus...

Re: Professor roger Buckley and Oculus

Hi Liam and welcome Although Professor Buckley has sadly retired from Oculus, his practice there has been taken over by another consultant, who is an expert in KC. Alternatively, you could get your GP to refer you to one of the large eye clinics in London (eg Moorfields or St Thomas's) for NHS treat...

Re: What treatment to have?

Hi Josh and welcome! A lot has changed in the past few years. Rigid contact lenses are still usually the first option offered, but there are now special soft lenses developed for KC, such as the Kerasoft 3, which may be suitable for some people. Some people also successfully 'piggy back' (wearing a ...

Re: My Intac Story

Hi Ali Good to hear you're finally making progress and all the very best with a good result from your Intacs. Rushing back to work is obviously not going to do you (or your employer) any favours. But if you're worried at how they're going to react, you might think about contacting Action for Blind P...

Re: Life back to normal..... but is it?

Hi Rick Good to hear that the graft is going well now. 1. Although I'll happily walk for miles, I've never been in to 'strenuous' activity, so will leave others to tell you about their gym activity! 2. Stitch removal - shouldn't need any time off apart from the day it's done. Pain - yes for a few ho...

Re: 4 more questions

Hi tf5 The only point to add on q3 to Rosemary's comprehensive reply is that only 1 or 2% of people with KC ever get a hydrops (though there's probably a higher percentage on this forum because we tend to be people with more advanced KC). And apart from a hydrops, the changes to the vision are much ...

Re: Will there be a happy ending?

Hi Vikki Just to add on the lens front that quite a few people here get on very well with the 'piggy back' system, so it's definitely worth a try. And if for any reason you find it's not for you, there also the option of scleral lenses which also can be a godsend for those who can't tolerate rgps. I...

Re: RGP comes off centre after about 40 minutes

Hi Asylumxl, Just to add that 'probably' doesn't mean 'inevitably'. We have several members who have had hydrops episodes and haven't gone on to have a transplant. And although it may seem hard to believe when you've just had one, 1 in 5 of hydrops episodes actually result in an improvement in visio...

Re: Promoting the Group

Many thanks Pat. And as I'm sure I've said here before, we have KC Group 'business cards' which I can send to anyone who would like to distribute them to opticians, optometrists, hospital clinics. Plus we have a poster which can be displayed in hospital clinics or opticians. So please contact me if ...
