Re: Query

Hi Stu and welcome to the forum! If you're getting your lenses through a hospital eye clinic, then you should be getting them at the NHS rate of around £51 per lens. That covers any changes of prescription in a 12 month period. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover lost lenses even though the most common ...

Re: New (son has Keratoconus)

Sorry! Yes, corneal transplant = corneal graft, though transplant is the correct medical term.

Re: New (son has Keratoconus)

Annie More information is on its way to your son. As we've all said, although rgps are usually the first lenses that are tried, they are by no means the only lens option and sclerals, piggy backing or specialist KC soft lenses may well prove more comfortable. Some people have also done well with Int...

Re: just had 8 stitches out

Hi Steve
I know from experience how painful stitch fragments can be. You really need this sorted so do go back to A&E tomorrow (or to Manchester A&E). Good luck.

Re: Treatment options and questions to ask

Hi Sue and welcome to the forum. The only thing I wanted to add to Gareth's very full reply is that the DVD of our 2005 conference had a very good talk from one of the Moorfields consultants on corneal transplants (and the 2007 DVD has information about Intacs and crosslinking). So if you're not on ...

Re: 2008 Diary of Crosslinking (cxl/ccl) treatment!

Cclman - I must admit I'm puzzled as to why even 20% of you would want to be rushing into Intacs at this stage. I'm no expert - neither crosslinking nor Intacs were available when my KC was bad, but as I understand it, the effects of crosslinking continue for several months and even several years af...

Re: Intacs

Hi Linda - I'm glad you found the DVD and newsletter helpful. I'm assuming that when you ask about 'treatment' before age 16, you're thinking about crosslinking? If so, you'll have seen from the newsletter that the consultant doing the Moorfields trials was hoping that he might be able to do trials ...

Re: KC Treatment?

Hi Admirc and welcome to the forum. We're finding quite a few people now who only discover they have keratoconus when they go for laser treatment to correct short sight. That's because the topography machines detect low levels of KC - low enough not to cause a problem, but enough to mean that laser ...

Jeremy - you don't need to get up on Saturday morning. Have a lie in! The meeting is at TWO O'CLOCK. Hope to see you then.
