Re: Corneal Graft Private Surgeon Fees
Hi C, I had a cornea graft last year on the NHS but I understand that the "Going rate" as a private patient for a PK in London's West End is about 5,000.00 GBP upwards which normally includes a number of follow up visits (around 4).At least, that is what I was quoted. I don't intend to sca...

Re: 8 month consultation
Hi Crackerjacker, I am in a similar situation to yourself. I definitely agree with Andrew. A graft is a long term process and most graftees only obtain their optimum vision when all sutures have been removed. Until then it is a waiting game and 8 months is still early days. The fact your graft is cl...

Re: 2 months in
Hi Optom, I would have thought if you were a private patient that you would automatically see your consultant and if he/she is unavailable then you should see someone with the same level of expertise i.e a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. After all you are paying hard cash for the se...

Cornea Rejection Episode and Eye Drops
Hi all, I had my PK on 23/09/08. All was fine until 28/05/09 when I suffered a mild rejection. I was put on hourly drops (Dexamethasone) for a short while, working my way down to three drops per day since 09/07/09.I also take Cosopt twice daily for high pressure. Yesterday I had my appointment(with ...

Re: Paranoia :(:(:(:(:(
Hi Optom, I too felt like you in the initial stages post surgery. However, one thing which really helped me was safety glasses which I wore and still wear going to the pub, on the tube etc. You can get a decent pair (which don't look like typical safety glasses) for a fiver on a good website. I knew...

CXL and age
Hi All, I have read various articles on CXL and a number of them recommend that CXL would not be of real benefit to those aged over 40. The assumption is that after age of 40 the collagen fibres in the cornea will have stiffened naturally with age which is of course what CXL aims to achieve. However...

General Question Re Cornea Grafts and fitness
Hi All, I have always wanted to ask a Doctor this question but it probably is not relevant to the consultation and is just for my own interest. Is there a connection between physical fitness and success/failure of grafts e.g. if steroids suppress an individual's immune system would an Olympic level ...

Re: life after the Professor.
Hi Lesley,
I also was a patient of Profesor Buckley for many years and I understand his practice block has been transferred/sold to another KC specialist in the area. If you pm me I will send you the name as I don't want to mention specific consultants names in a public forum etc
Regds,
Liam
