Re: Penetrating versus lamellar graft
Thanks Susan - I live in North London and am treated at Moorfields. We all have different experiences and attitudes to treatment and i too was originally very resistant to the idea of a penetrating graft. The turning point came when i could no longer tolerate a lens for long enough to do my work sat...

Penetrating versus lamellar graft
Hi everyone haven't posted for a long time, hope you're all good. It's 10 months since my graft and all has gone well. Now have a pair of specs for the first time in 15 years, with 6/6 vision through the graft and glasses. Still have to wear a scleral in the other side though! My surgeon wants to do...

Re: Early lens fitting after graft
hi everyone now 2 months post graft and i have a scleral lens fitted! this gives 6/6 vision and is comfortable to wear all day. it's really an amazing result, as preop i could only get to 6/36 with a tight scleral that i could only tolerate for a few hours. so all has been going swimmingly... until ...

Re: Last requests?
Well it's now 8 days since the op and there's been a steady improvement every day. The eye was much more painful than I was expecting for the first few days, and I spent a lot of time lieing in bed in sunglasses listening to the ipod. Having the eye open or shut didn't seem to make much difference. ...

Re: Graft update post op
hi bobby - really sorry to hear your news. We will all be thinking of you and i'm sure that when this has all settled down you'll be able to look back and think all the heartache was worth it. My thoughts will be with you as you go through the op again
good luck!

Re: Warning-pitfalls of heathcare
Hi everyone had the graft yesterday under GA and went home in the late afternoon. Seems to have gone ok but the pain is much worse than i thought it would be. I'm sitting in a dark room in sunglasses taking codeine and diclofenac. It does seem to be improving over the course of the day. Vision throu...

Last requests?
Did anyone make any final demands of their old cornea, or record its vision, prior to the graft? I'm due to have a PK on Thursday (8th May) and I keep meaning to draw some pictures of what the world looks like through my left eye (ie blurry and mainly nonsensical) before it goes bionic. Has anyone d...

Re: Warning-pitfalls of heathcare
hope noone minds me resurrecting a dormant post... i'm about to have a graft with XXX cover and am wondering about the take home prescription - did you have to pay for it yourself or was that covered. and what sort of pain relief did people need in the immediate post op period?

Re: Early lens fitting after graft
hi Ebfrznel thanks for the update - must be really weird putting scleral over the graft. do you worry when you remove it that you'll affect the sutures? sounds hopeful and i'm sure your brain will adapt to the new vision quickly. one week to go til my op! in answer to your previous question, i'm hav...
