Re: RNIB FILM -"IT COULD Damage the cause of our group"

I believe it would be useful to consider where RNIB are coming from which, to my mind, is trying to help and raise awareness. The KC Group does not 'own' keratoconus and we cannot stop other people talking about it or trying to help. We probably have the biggest source of practical experience from w...

Next Meeting 12th May

The topic of our next meeting is "Modern Management of Keratoconus" to be given by Mr Sai Kolli (Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust) and will be a good opportunity to hear about some of the latest d...

Re: glasses worn over RGP lenses

I've worn glasses over contact lenses for decades Mikey and never had or been told there is a problem. I think at an earlier stage of my KC this was to get a better balance of corrective power between the contact lenses so some power went on one spec lens but I have been through many types of lenses...

Re: Is there anyone with KC who childdren have not got it.

To add to the positive messages Lola, I believe I was the only one in my family with KC across many aunts, uncles and cousins and none of my 3 children have it (they were closely monitored) or any of the 3 grandchildren (although they are all under 5 years old at present). I can't think of many peop...

Re: Driving with Keratoconus

Thanks Britdazz, I think that is a very useful contribution and your last line sums it up very well. The only thing I would add is that we all have to be aware that things can change and we have to stay aware of this. However, contact lens design and materials continue to improve and it's always wor...

Another Good Meeting 7th October 2017

There were 19 of us at yesterday's meeting with the venue at Birmingham John Lewis now firmly established and we have decided to make this the regular venue - next year's dates are already booked. We had a really good interactive discussion about KC and raising awareness of it and I have sent a copy...

Don't Forget This Saturday in Birmingham (7th October)

Quick reminder of our next (and final gathering of the year) at John Lewis Community Hub in Birmingham at 11:00. We will be talking about World KC Day, NKCF (our sister organisation in the USA) and raising awareness of KC so this is a good opportunity for anybody who would like to share anything rel...

Re: Arc Welding after a corneal graft

That's a great question Bob, always good to have a new challenge but unfortunately I have no idea of how to answer it. Not immediately obvious why there should be a problem in comparison with an ungrafted eye but, as you rightly say, you do not want to take any chances. Have you contacted the hospit...

Next Meeting 7th October 2017

Our next meeting is called "World Keratoconus Day and Us". World Keratoconus Day will be 10th November and was started last year in the USA. This is a good opportunity to learn more about it, to have an open discussion on what we can do to raise awareness of KC and for anybody to share any...

Re: hello advice please ... I think I put this in FAQs by mistake!

At the risk of stating the obvious, are you developing cataracts? Perfectly normal at that age but does reduce the vision because less light getting through. However, I'm assuming your eyes have been checked recently so that should have been picked up. I'm a few years older and starting to notice th...
