Re: Eye tests and hospital contact lens appointments
In my case I've not seen an ophthalmologist since 1997 when I was told "Yes, you do have keratoconus" and sent to the contact lens department. Prior to that I'd been able to get my contact lenses on the high street. So my eye check is with the high street optometrists. Who eventually did m...

Eye tests and hospital contact lens appointments
Many years ago, when I was first referred to the hospital contact lens service, I thought I no longer needed high street eye tests. The reason I thought this was that as glasses were of no use to me why did I need an eye test for glasses? My thinking was not unlike people who don't wear glasses, and...

Re: Spare / used scleral lens
Hi Happy, I agree with space_cadet this is not a good idea. Apart from there being a risk of getting an infection from a second hand lens, any second hand lens is extremely unlikely to fit so if you did get it in you'd be desperate to get it out again as it would probably be extremely uncomfortable....

Re: Scleral Lenses: Flying + Swimming
The advice from the Association of Optometrists is: "It’s safer not to swim in contact lenses at all; if you absolutely have to, the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) advice for swimmers is to use daily disposable lenses with a well-sealed pair of goggles or mask and discard the lenses im...

Re: Jumping between private and NHS for lenses
There are lots of different types of contact lenses that can be prescribed for keratoconus and it might not be that all sclerals are better that all RGPs for your eyes. It could be that the improvement in vision is due to the fact that your current lenses are old and the prescription needs to be upd...

DVLA and keratoconus
Last September we were discussing the fact that the DVLA had added keratoconus to their list of notifiable medical conditions. https://www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18093 It looks as if keratoconus has now been removed from their list. https://www.gov.uk/eye-conditions-a...

Re: The lives people lead..
Hi Cameron. Most of the time I can forget I have KC as with my contact lenses as I have very good vision with them, although I do now need reading glasses (due to my age!) for small print and intricate sewing. Sometimes a contact lens re-fitting has taken several appointments which can be very frust...

Re: RGP and Soft no good - any recommendations?
RGPs shouldn't be uncomfortable. It is true that they do take some time to get used to but after awhile you shouldn't really notice that you are wearing them. There are lots of different designs of RGPs so it may be that a different design would work for you. If the optician says that your RGP is a ...

Re: Ring Treatment (Ferrara/Intacs)
Hi Taylan, Very view forum users have had Intacs. You can use the forum search box to read about their experiences. As I understand it the aim of Intacs is to flatten the cornea to improve vision and to make it easier to fit a contact lens. If they don't work they can be removed. Do you know why you...
